Floyd Mayweather jr. thinks Knicks Jeremy Lin hype is because he’s Asian

Floyd posted on Twitter Monday night that the only reason why Knicks breakout star point guard Jeremy Lin is getting attention is because he’s Asian. I’m going to attempt to play advocate for Floyd for a second. There are a very small number of Asians in the league. That’s true. Obviously Yao Ming was a superstar. There was Wang Zhi-Zhi, Sun Yee and maybe a handful of others.

But to dial Lin’s story to only his lineage is ignoring a number of astounding facts. Not just him being cut by both the Warriors and Rockets, not only the D-League stint, Lin has broken history for ANY NBA player. No player in NBA had scored at least 20 points with seven assists in each of his first four starts until Lin. He’s averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 assists and 2.0 steals in those four starts. His 109 points in those first four starts most by any player since 1976-77. And those are all wins.

Not LeBron James. Not Kobe Bryant and not his royal airness, Michael Jordan. That distinction belongs to Jeremy Lin. Nobody is doing that everyday. Oh and he’s a Harvard graduate who also happens to be Asian-American. Oh and the other thing, he had a foot and one baby toe out of the NBA.

That’s a pretty amazing story.

So that sort of kills Floyd’s theory.

If it’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s an ignorant comment from an African-American about another minority. Like you said, Lin is a record holder for what he’s done in an extremely short span. Not for Asians, but period. He essentially went from being an undrafted pick-up off the street to starting and balling out of control. And I’ll go there. Other black players have tried to run D’Antoni’s system in NY. And none have come remotely close.

I agree 100 pct with Floyd . The media is always looking for the next great hope . A month from now if he’s still doing what he’s doing then I’ll give him his props . I can’t wait till he goes against D Rose , CP3 , Westbrook and some of the real Points in the league . They will tear him a new asshole , then I want all you bandwagon ass media guys to make sure you report that …..

Look the bottom line is strip race out of this story and keep everything else the same and there would still be “hype.” Simply because of the fact that an unknown pg is playing for the Knicks and has managed to do somethings larger names haven’t. On a team that contains two Superstars whose arrivals were said to be the saving of the franchise. The fact that he’s the first Taiwanese man in the NBA is a sweetner but not the main story.

He was an underdog. EVERYONE cheers for that.

Are we still talking about dude I hate Mayweaher, but I agree with him on this one!!! (that’s not good ppl) Daddy David Stern should of cancelled this whole damn season. Professional Basketball Players Paid Millions, but some teams are playing like jr.high school basketball (BobCats, Raptors, Grizzles, Nets,Pistons,Wizards Kings (If y’all ever come to Sac Town skip “The Kings” go deep in the hood N.Sac and see The Grant Pacers, Rich School, Granite Bay High and The Mayor’s ( K.Johnson) old High Sch. in S. Sac The Sacramento High Dragons) and the Hornets.

Daddy Stern needs to cancel the All Stars and have a special draft. Go from Thirty Teams down to Twenty Two. And as far as this “genius” Mr. Lin, SO!!!! The only ppl that should be thinking about Mr.Lin is Carmelo Anthony and the person that was dumb enough to let “Melo” fool them into umpteen million dollars contact. Y’all hip hop generation need to learn y’all “Black History” LOL!! this here been going go since slavery days, It’s called “THE WHITE/ASIAN MAN MAKING A MONKEY OUT OF THE BLACK MAN (CARMELO).

As a NY Knicks fan since forever, when you play in New York, you are on stage, period! We want to see winners! We want winning teams that perform! Before Lin-sanity began, our marquee players weren’t getting the job done. They’re black yes, but to me their race is irrelevant. The fact is, Melo and Amar’e were out of the lineup and Lin stepped up. I don’t really care that’s he Asian. He’s been the major contributor to our wins. Maybe with Melo not being a shot nut, and Amar’e's lukewarm performance (before his family tragedy) Lin got the opportunity to show what he is made of! When you see the door open a crack, you got OPEN it and walk through!!! YES, Lin is Chinese American, yes he’s a Harvard grad, but most importantly he’s doing what needs to be done for a fraction of what our Big name players are getting paid. And the biggest story since Lin-Sanity began was that he was sleeping on his brother’s couch without a guaranteed contract. I say give him credit where credit is due, look at his numbers! He’s doing the damn thing.

Im Japanese and I agree with Floyd. We as asiatic peoples have always been looking for someone to showcase our academic and athletic abilities. So when ever theres an asian athelte doing that..he’s made into an instant star. There is also a profit factor driving this. The asian community in NY and LA are a economic group the NBA really wants to cut into.
