Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov isn’t prepared to let Deron WIlliams go without a fight… literally. Speaking to media in front of the Barclays construction site, the Nets owner said that he’d crush Mark Cuban in a “kickboxing throw down” if he wins the services of Deron Williams in free agency this summer.
He was joking of course. But he did say that he had a conversation with Deron about his future goals:

More details are emerging as to what the proverbial ”straw” that broke the camel’s back was that caused the Dallas Mavericks and Lamar Odom to part ways. According to ESPN Dallas, Odom and Mavs owner Mark Cuban got into a heated exchange during halftime of the Mavs vs. Grizzlies game in Memphis Saturday night.

Athletes should be required to study the blue print Magic Johnson has laid in his post career. I understand everyone has a different path. But with so many athletes filing for bankruptcy, being sued for various payment defaults and not being prepared for life post playing days, Johnson’s story and the brand he’s built outside of basketball is great model.

Lamar Odom and the Dallas Mavericks have decided to part ways. Although the move isn’t an official release- he’ll be listed as inactive for the remainder of the season- Odom will not be with the team. He released a statement:

Orlando Magic GM Otis Smith gave an interview to Lisa Salters before the Magic beat the Sixers 88-82 on Saturday. Smith denied coach Stan Van Gundy’s allegations that Dwight Howard asked to have him fired.

Earlier this week, rumors surfaced that Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard wanted head coach Stan Van Gundy fired. Dwight then came out to refute those claims. Today, Van Gundy confirmed that Howard had in fact asked for him to removed from his position.

Does Andrew Bynum not want to be in LA? Or is it just that he’s not feeling Mike Brown and believes he’s untouchable. Bynum was fined an undisclosed amount by the Lakers for a laundry list of team infractions.

Magic Johnson and his ownership group (Guggenheim Baseball management group) have purchased the Los Angeles Dodgers for $2.15 billion. The largest price paid for a professional sports franchise in history. Also apart of the ownership group, Peter Guber-who is also one of the owners of the Golden State Warriors, Stan Kasten (former President of the Washington Nationals), Bobby Patton and Todd Boehly. Mark Walter of Guggenheim Partners is the controlling partner.
