Divisional Weekend – Jan 13 & 14
Alabama just won the national championship- in epic fashion no less. And the seemingly annual rumors of Nick Saban joining the Giants are heating up once again. The Giants could use a big name hire, but whispers around the NFL are saying that it’s not to be. There are four games this weekend for the Divisional playoffs round and they should be entertaining. Here’s a review of each tilt on the docket.
The Titans pulled out a close win versus the Chiefs last week. Admittedly, it was a boon to the Titans that Travis Kelce suffered an injury, but don’t take anything away from Tennessee. They made plays when they needed to make plays. That being said, the mountain in New England is a much taller one to climb. Naturally, the rumors that the potent duo of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick may split up is disconcerting, but Tom Brady is playing elite football right now. Also the Patriots are finally getting (reasonably) healthy at running back. Look for New England to roll.
The Jaguars have a ferocious defense; they also have the mercurial Blake Bortles at quarterback. It’s a combination that leads to some up-and-down days, and this is likely to be one of the down ones. Antonio Brown- the best wide receiver in the NFL, practiced in full this week. He’s healthy now, and even though Jacksonville has an elite secondary, they will struggle to stop him. Look for the Steelers to do well at home.
Nick Foles (despite his epic season a few years ago) is not Carson Wentz. Unfortunately for the Eagles, they may have trouble moving and protecting the ball. Atlanta is a team that is slowly gaining momentum, and Julio Jones is always a threat to totally change a game. Atlanta is poised for a road win.
This game could be the best one of the week. The Saints have explosive weapons like Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara. The Vikings have top-tier weapons too, chief among them Adam Thielen. But, Drew Brees has much more playoff experience than Keenum. Look for his Saints to advance to the next round.
