West Coast rap icon Warren G, born Warren Griffin III, has teamed up with YouTube Red for his new documentary, G-Funk: The Untold Story of Warren G. The film traces the early beginnings of Warren G, Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg’s group 213 in the early 90’s, while chronicling the rise of “Gangster Funk.”
Featuring never-before-seen footage and interviews with Warren G, Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, Ice Cube, Ice T, Too Short, The D.O.C., Wiz Khalifa and others, G-Funk provides a first-hand look at Warren G’s story and G-Funk’s impact on pop culture.
Warren sat down with EURweb’s Jill Munroe to discuss his introduction into “G- Funk” music from early west coast rap pioneers “Above The Law,” his culture impact on current artists like Kendrick Lamar and Ty $, the impact of streaming on today’s hip-hop, how his debut album saved Def Jam in the 90’s and what motivated him to drop a documentary.
