Last weekend I attended a networking brunch for women in entertainment, put together by digital marketing strategist, Karen Civil. While there I met Olympic Gold medalist, and the fastest woman in the world, Carmelita Jeter. Carmelita, like me is from the LA area. Carmelita grew up in Gardena, and this weekend she plans on giving back to that neighborhood.
On Saturday, November 22nd, Jeter will hold a turkey give-a-way from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Rowley Park in Gardena, CA for families in need this Thanksgiving season.
“My number one goal is to bring unity, support and opportunities to the city of Gardena. Gardena is where I grew up, so this is home for me,” Carmelita Jeter said. “So for me to come back and give love here is a no brainer – to positively affect the community where I grew up is a must.”
Currently Jeter is training for the 2015 World Championship in Beijing, and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Jeter won several medals in the 2012 Olympics; Gold in the 4x100m relay, Silver in the 100m and Bronze in the 200m. Additionally, Carmelita anchored the 2012 US Olympic 4x100m relay team.
