Every January, hundreds of independent film makers make the trek to Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival. The 2015 event kicked off January 22nd, and one film in particular is already generating an early buzz.
Dope is the creation of writer-director Rick Famuyiwa – his debut feature, “The Wood” is one of my favorite movies. In his fourth feature, the setting is once again in Inglewood, ca. This time in the early 90’s centering on three geeks who combine prepping their university applications and SATs with a sideline selling a huge stash of drugs that accidentally ends up in their lap — or rather, their backpack.
A bidding war has already broke out for the film with Open Road and Sony purchasing the film for $7 million.
