Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has finally received his statue in front of Staples Center. In a ceremony held on Friday prior to Lakers facing off against the Phoenix Suns, Kareem’s statue throwing his famous sky hook was unveiled. On hand for the occasion, his “showtime” teammates, Magic Johnson, Jamaal Wilkes, Kurt Rambis, A.C. Green and James Worthy, the former coach and GM from that era, Pat Riley and Jerry West, plus NBA legends Dr. J, Elgin Baylor and Bill Walton. And I can’t forget about one of the Lakers most famous fans from that era, Jack Nicholson.
Kareem joins Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Chick Hearn, Wayne Gretzky and Oscar De La Hoya with bronze statues on Star Plaza.
Salute to “The Captain.”
“Having lived my life and had the experiences I’ve had, I can understand now what a man like Lou Gehrig means when he considers himself the luckiest man on the face of the earth,” – Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
