Looks like the Cleveland Cavaliers and former head coach Mike Brown will be reuniting. 3 years after Brown was fired, prior to LeBron James heading to South Beach, Mike Brown is said to be returning to the Cavs as head coach with additional responsibilities in basketball operations.
Per Yahoo Sports, The deal is expected to be worth $20 million for 5 years. I wonder if that means the money the Lakers owe him is a wrap too. Thus paving the way to fire Mike D’Antoni, and try to right that wrong with Phil Jackson… Just thinking out loud, but back to the topic at hand… Some believe Brown is being brought back in hopes of enticing LeBron James back home in 2014. That seems unlikely as I thought the whole reason Mike Brown was fired was in the last go around was because of he and LeBron’s shaky relationship. With the franchise wanting to appease King James to stay. We all know how well that worked out.
No matter now, the Cavs have a few nice pieces to build around including young Kyrie Irving. Brown can probably capture this team’s attention having coached both LeBron and Kobe. Therefore making the connection to the players that he was unable to do while in L.A. with a team who likes a bit of star power and mystique with their head coaches.
Cleveland fired former head coach Byron Scott -who took over for Brown before LeBron announced where he was taking his talents- after the season ended last week. The deal is expected to be announced as early as Wednesday.
