Mark Cuban has no love for players who were on that Mavericks Championship squad but leave via free agency. Cuban spoke to ESPN Dallas recently and stressed loyalty has to go along with that Mav championship so don’t look for Jason Kidd’s jersey to end up in the rafters.
Cuban is claiming “hurt feelings” because of Kidd’s decision to leave. Not just because he didn’t return to the Mavs but because he felt Kidd was dishonest about the entire situation unlike Jason Terry who signed with the Celtics this summer.
Cuban has put thought into it this though. He has strategy as to who would is worthy of getting a jersey retired.
Putting somebody up in the rafters, that’s something sacred in my mind,” Cuban said. “You don’t just do it just to do it, to have a big ceremony, to sell tickets. You haven’t seen me decide yet. I go back and forth on Derek Harper all the time, but Harp will be up there before J. Kidd will.”
“I’ve always said my prerequisite was that you played on a championship team for the Mavs. I’d say Jet’s got a shot, Dirk’s an obvious, but as of right now I wouldn’t put J. Kidd up there.”
