Shocking news here. <that’s sarcasm> The Orlando Magic have announced that head coach, Stan Van Gundy has been relieved of his duties. In addition to that, GM and President of basketball operations, Otis Smith and the team have mutually agreed to part ways.
These expected moves follow up a season that saw Dwight Howard playing coy with the media regarding his intention to sign an extension, trade demands, Stan Van Gundy’s awkward press conference where he told reporters Dwight had asked to get him fired several times and of course Otis Smith commandeering the ship as all this was taking place.
These two moves have been expected for months. All that’s left to see now is how the Magic plan to move forward and handle year two of Dwight’s pending free agency status. But how much of that is dependent on how Dwight recovers from back surgery?
