Derek Fisher signed with the Dallas Mavericks on November 29th. Fisher suffered a right patellar tendon strain when the Mavs where taking on the Heat last week. On Saturday Fisher asked the Mavs to waive him citing the two week recovery time and the difficulty of being away from his family.
For Fisher, the likeliest move is retirement at this point. Some have mentioned a possible return to the Lakers at some point but that seems doubtful. The last thing the Lakers need as an aging point guard.
For the Mavs, in the interim, they’ll call up Chris Douglas-Roberts from the D-League Texas Legends but the team isn’t quite ready to make a long term commitment to the former second round draft pick.
