#1 NFL draft pick Cam Newton has officially signed with the Carolina Panthers. His contract is worth $22million over four years and is fully guaranteed. One of the conditions of the new collective bargaining agreement is a rookie wage scale. So while Cam’s contract is certainly nice, in contrast last year’s No. 1 draft pick, QB Sam Bradford, signed a six-year, $78 million contract with the Rams.
I thought Sam’s contract was a bit excessive for an unproven rookie that was coming off injury but the Rams are my team so I hope the gamble works out for them. I see playoffs in their future this year.
But back to Cam, his road to get to this point has been a little rocky, now we’ll get the opportunity to see if he can produce at the NFL level.
