Broncos’ Brandon Marshall Loses Endorsement Over National Anthem Kneel

The 2016 NFL season kicked off last week, with the opening game being a rematch between SuperBowl opponents, the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.

Before the game got underway, Broncos’ Brandon Marshall took a knee during the National Anthem. Marshall and 49’ers QB Colin Kaepernick were college teammates. Marshall’s decision  resulted in the loss of an endorsement deal with Air Academy Federal Credit Union.

“Although we have enjoyed Brandon Marshall as our spokesperson over the past five months, Air Academy Federal Credit Union (AAFCU) has ended our partnership,” Glenn Strebe, AAFCU’s president and CEO wrote on the company’s Facebook page. “AAFCU is a membership-based organization who has proudly served the military community for over 60 years. While we respect Brandon’s right of expression, his actions are not a representation of our organization and membership. We wish Brandon well on his future endeavors.”

Marshall has not commented on their decision and no word of how much money he loses with this decision but I doubt it was a significant endorsement. He indicated that he expected some sort of backlash for taking this stance, but made it clear that he’s not against the military or police – much like Kaepernick has done over the last few weeks. He also mentioned that he has multiple family members who are in the military.
