Bay Area Could Generate $800 Million From Hosting Super Bowl 50

We are less than a week from Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco – really Santa Clara but how may of you really known the difference? – between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos.  Cities often vie for the right to be the host city of the big game, let’s take a look at the economic impact it brings via CNBC.

  • The cost to San Francisco will be nearly $5 million to host parties and “celebratory events.” Meanwhile Santa Clara, where Levi Stadium is located, will have its costs paid for by the NFL. But don’t cry for San Fran, that $5 mil will come back to them via state and hotel taxes.
  • Super Bowl 49 brought the entire state of Arizona a gross economic impact of $719.4 million. Super Bowl 50 is expected to generate $800 million.
  • This week marks the start to “Super Bowl week” retailers – shops, restaurants, hotels, etc. – can expect over 1.5 million visitors.

This will be the first time the Super Bowl has been back in “the city” in almost three decades.
