American Express enters into a deal with the Brooklyn Nets that includes naming rights for “The 40/40 Club”

No matter what happens when the Brooklyn Nets take the court this fall, their home arena, The Barclays Center, is already set to cash in. American Express has struck a five-year deal with the Nets to become a founding partner. The deal is estimated to be worth more than $2 million annually. Check the details:

discussions, with Wasserman Media Group assisting on the buy side, led to one of the most comprehensive sports deals for American Express, including naming rights to both The 40/40 Club restaurant on a suite level and the arena’s box office. The official name of the restaurant has not been decided, Nets officials said.

Who loses in this deal? The Knicks. Amex was previously the sponsor for the Knicks and Madison Square Garden. Other sponsors for the Nets and Barclays center include,  MetroPCS, Ticketmaster, Calvin Klein, Foxwoods Resort Casino and Stolichnaya vodka.
