5 Historically Big Wins in Sports Betting

Online gambling has become more popular in the United States, but betting has been around for centuries. Now, people are flocking to  Vegas casinos online to get rich quickly, but online sports betting is also available.

Getting rich quickly, regardless of the online gambling form that you choose, is never easy. There is a ton of luck involved, but those that hit it big in the past will say it’s all skill. And there are definitely some unique skills to wagering on sports betting. For example, here are five times a bettor got it right and ended up with a massive payday.

Walters Wins Big With Saints

One of the most significant sports betting wins ever recorded actually doesn’t include a firm payout. Billy Walters is the man that won big on the New Orleans Saints, and Walters was well known in the poker industry before making a sports bet.

Walters won an unconfirmed amount of money, but a $3.5 million wager was reportedly placed on the underdog Saints. This was the first-ever Super Bowl title for the Saints, and Walters was able to set himself up for life with the win.

Vegas Dave Cashes In

“Vegas Dave”  is widely known in the gambling industry because he is a man that loves to celebrate his victories. He has been a thorn in the side of sportsbooks for quite some time, but his best work came in 2015.  Vegas Dave was able to win $2.5 million in 2015 by betting on the Kansas City Royals to win the World Series at 30-1 odds. However, since sportsbooks didn’t want to take all of the action from Vegas Dave, he spread out his wagers at 15 sportsbooks to collect this massive payout.

Tiger Delivers at Augusta

Tiger Woods has been one of the most dominant golfers in PGA Tour history, and there was a stretch where he was the pick to win each weekend. Woods might have made some people money during his glory days, but his most significant win for a bettor occurred at the 2019 Masters.

James Adduci placed an $85,000 bet on Tiger Woods to win the Masters in 2019, and he was given 14-1 odds with that wager. When Woods completed the improbable victory, Adduci collected $1.2 million from William Hill. That broke the record for the largest amount that William Hill has ever paid out.

Charles Barkley Backs Brady

Charles Barkley, “The Round Mound of Rebound,” has not hidden the fact that he enjoys wagering on sports. Most of this gambling addiction has come since his playing days were over, but his biggest win came almost two decades ago.

Barkley was apparently on the New England Patriots before they were a thing as he placed a $500,000 wager on them to win the Super Bowl back in 2002. Since the Patriots were such big underdogs in that matchup, Barkley was able to win a return of $800,000 for this one single bet.

Anonymous Bettor Wins Big With Baseball

One of the biggest wins ever recorded in the sports betting industry doesn’t have a complete story behind it. Sportsbooks will confirm that the massive payout occurred during the 2017 World Series, but the man that made the bet has never been confirmed. This was actually a series of bets placed on that World Series, but the final payout came after Game 6 of the World Series was completed. Sources have confirmed that his bettor was from Eastern Europe, but no one has stepped forward to claim the winning ticket.
