Warriors fans boo owner Joe Lacob during Chris Mullin retirement ceremony [video]

Chris Mullen not only spent thirteen seasons as a player on the Golden State Warriors, he also was an executive with the franchise for five years. Tonight his jersey was retired at Oracle arena during halftime of Warriors vs. Timberwolves.

Mullin is the second player in Warriors franchise history to average 25 points per game for five consecutive years (Wilt Chamberlain was the first and his jersey already hangs in the rafters at the arena). Owner Joe Lacob took the mic to address the audience and was immediately serenade to a chorus of boos.

Lacob received the greeting presumably because he traded away fan favorite Monta Ellis. Check it out.

It’s interesting to me that Warriors fans are this upset about Monta’s departure. While he’s a dynamic player and can certainly score. He hasn’t helped them turn the corner. Stephen Curry seems to be more of a true point guard but obviously there are concerns about his recurring ankle issues.

To win in the West, size is a need, not a want.

On a side note, Chris Mullin is a class act. You can see how visibly shaken Lacob was, it was gracious of Chris in his moment to try to get the ceremony back on track. And it worked… until he handed the mic back to Lacob. What week he’s had! First his fiance gives him the cold shoulder and now the fans.
