Tamia says Basketball Wives isn’t the life of an NBA wife

Four seasons into Basketball Wives and two versions (Miami and LA) people are still asking other “basketball wives” if the VH1 show is the reality of an NBA wife. The latest to tackle that question, Tamia, wife of Phoenix Sun Grant Hill.

“I think that it’s definitely very misleading in terms of what our lives are about,” she told The Huffington Post.

“I think, to be fair, a lot of those women [on the show] aren’t wives,” said Tamia, who has met more than a few NBA wives since she and Grant began dating 15 years ago.

“I do have a lot of friends who are married to athletes, and a lot of these women are involved in charities, doing all kinds of things behind the scenes and are supportive wives, and—believe it or not—have supportive husbands who are really great guys.”

One, are we STILL debating this? Basketball Wives has had actual wives or women currently in relationships with NBA players, Kenya Bell’s husband Charlie Bell just filed for divorce, remember Meeka Claxton? Gloria Govan and Matt Barnes, Jackie Christie. As different as those women are, their experiences are different. Lala is a “basketball wife” and her schedule and Tamia’s aren’t the same.

Not every NBA significant other’s experience will be the same. Plus, at this point everyone understands what Basketball Wives is and I would hope they are clear on what the experience will be.

But Tamia and Grant are cute. I hope to never hear that after 15 years together Grant is straying. The couple is featured in the new video for Tamia’s upcoming album, Beautiful Surprise
