Shaunie O’Neal says Shaq attempting to nix reality show over image concerns

Shaunie O’Neal will face off against her ex-husband, ex-NBA superstar, Shaq in court next month. The two are at odds over Shaunie’s new VH1 reality show, “The Shaunie Project.” Shaq believes that the show will make his children look bad. Considering the history of the show’s Shaunie’s produced with VH1.

But Shaunie claims that Shaq is actually more concerned with his image because he’s been an absentee dad according to legal documents obtained by HipHollywood:

According to the docsShaunie believes Shaq doesn’t want to do the show because it will tarnish his image as a father and show that he is barely around his kids. Shaunie says that the children spend the summer with O’Neal but that he has attended  ”maybe one of our children’s birthday events this year.” What’s more, Shaunie says Shaq has missed 4 graduation events this year and in the past four years has attended “maybe four sporting events” that the kids are involved in.

Shaunie also writes in her declaration that O’Neal was offered an Executive Producer credit on the show,  and the opportunity to view the episodes before they aired to ensure that the show portrayed his children to his liking. Producers close to the show tell us Shaq agreed to sign the consent forms, but renigged only after VH1 wouldn’t agree to paying him $1 million for his participation.

After Shaq’s retirement announcement in 2011, Shaunie mentioned that she hoped he’d spend more time with his children. The two currently have joint custody with the four children spending the summer with Shaq. During the NBA season, Shaq is an analyst for TNT’s “Inside the NBA” which shoots in Atlanta.

Shaunie also included in the court documents that she does not receive spousal support or alimony. In blocking this show, Shaq is interfering with her ability to contribute to her household.
