Shaq Threatened To Kill Kobe And Other Gems From Shaq: Uncut

Kobe vs. Shaq Round 9885664454

Shaq’s new book, Shaq:Uncut comes out on November 15th. Deadspin got an advanced copy and has released a few excerpts. Uncut wasn’t just a clever adjective, in this excerpt, Shaq details how he told Kobe he would kill him after Kobe did that famous interview with Jim Grey where he called Shaq fat, lazy and implied Shaq wasn’t really injured but was holding out for his contract.

Kobe stands up and goes face-to-face with me and says, “You always said you’re my big brother, you’d do anything for me, and then this Colorado thing happens and you never even called me.” I did call him. … So here we are now, and we find out he really was hurt that we didn’t stand behind him. That was something new. I didn’t think he gave a rat’s ass about us either way. “Well, I thought you’d publicly support me, at least,” Kobe said. “You’re supposed to be my friend.”

Brian Shaw chimed in with “Kobe, why would you think that? Shaq had all these parties and you never showed up for any of them. We invited you to dinner on the road and you didn’t come. Shaq invited you to his wedding and you weren’t there. Then you got married and didn’t invite any of us. And now you are in the middle of this problem, this sensitive situation, and now you want all of us to step up for you. We don’t even know you.” …
Everyone was starting to calm down when I told Kobe, “If you ever say anything like what you said to Jim Gray ever again, I will kill you.”

Kobe shrugged and said, “Whatever.”

Here’s the crazy thing, back then, the average fan would’ve assumed Shaq wasn’t dead serious. Now that we’ve heard the stories of the alleged; hits, stalking and computer hacking etc. Shaq was into. I’d say it’s entirely possible Shaq was considering calling the goons.  Jinkies!

Other interesting details… Shaq owns a few Five-Guys burgers, Clubs in Vegas and 15 24-Hour Fitness gyms.

He also said Kobe always told him he would win 5 or 6 championships and be the Lakers number 1 scorer, be “the Will Smith of the NBA.”- I’m not sure I know what that means.– and the info about the fight he and Miami Heat President, Pat Riley had shortly before he was shipped out to Phoenix.

Check out Deadspin for more juicy excerpts. This is definitely a must read.
