Shaq adds Doctor to his name, receiving a PHD in education

Big news for Shaquille O’Neal. Now he can add a new name to his plethora of nicknames, Doctor O’Neal. Shaq will be awarded his PHD in education this weekend from Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla, a Roman Catholic University.

Shaq put in more than four years of graduate school work, including one-on-one class sessions and completed 16 courses, 54 credit hours, and finished with a 3.8 GPA.

Dr. O’Neal, Ed.D, concentrated in Organizational Learning and Leadership, and wrote a dissertation, complete with an oral and video project, titled, “How Leaders Utilize Humor or Seriousness in Leadership Roles.”

It should be noted that Shaq completed his undergrad from LSU in general studies and a political science minor and his Masters degree in Business administration from the University of Phoenix, all while still active in the NBA. I hope he’s an inspiration to other athletes (and regular students also) that you can still live out your dreams while securing a path to the future. Congratulations Shaq!
