Former NFL running back Ray Rice spoke to the Florida State Seminoles football team last weekend before their home opener against Ole Miss. Rice’s speech was filmed for Showtime’s docu-series on the team called “A Season with Florida State Football.”
Rice gave an emotional speech that touched on life lessons. He shared with them how that one night in an Atlantic City Casino elevator changed his whole life. Rice was caught on the hotel surveillance tape hitting his then-fiancee Janay, and then dragging her unconscious body out of the elevator after knocking her unconscious.
“I made the worst decision of my life,” Rice said. “And the reality of it is I’m not playing football right now not because I’m not good enough, because I made the worst decision of my life.”
Last year, an FSU backup quarterback – De’Andre Johnson- was caught punching a woman at a bar, and later dismissed from the team after the surveillance video went viral. Rice’s conversation was something the team could relate to.
