Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius kills girlfriend model Reeva Steenkamp

South African runner Oscar Pistorius known for his blades during the London Olympic games last summer was arrested for murder Thursday morning after allegedly shooting his girlfriend, 30-year-old model Reeva Steenkamp at his home in South Africa’s capital, Pretoria.

Several South African media outlets are reporting that Pistorius may have mistaken Steenkamp for a burglar and shot her. Steenkamp may have been trying to surprise the double-amputee Olympian for Valentine’s Day.

Officers found a 9 mm pistol at Pistorius’ house, he’s expected to appear in court later on Thursday.

**Update**

According to The BBC, police had been to Pistorius’ home a prior time on a domestic violence call but don’t indicate who the victim was. They were expected to request bail be denied.  Reeva’s last tweets include asking her followers what they have planned for Valentine’s Day and a RT encouraging her followers to wear black on Friday to support victims of rape and abuse.
