The NBA has announced it is joining the ranks of professional soccer and the WNBA by adding sponsorship to their uniforms beginning in the 2013-2014 season. The proposal still has to be voted on by the league’s Board of Governors is scheduled to take place this September. Should it pass – and let’s be honest, what NBA owner isn’t looking for a way to squeeze a few more dollars out of their product. The suggested placement would be an added patch, 2 ½ inches-by-2 ½ inches just above the heart.
The players stand to make a few coins as well. And for those concerned about the possibility of a player wearing a uniform sponsored by a competitor product that they might possibly have a deal with, I assume it will be similar to Adidas sponsoring the league uniforms with Nike players in them.
I just hope the situation is aesthetically pleasing and the players don’t end up looking like a NASCAR driver.
