NBA free agent Daniel “Boobie” Gibson says he defended wife in altercation that led to battery charges

NBA free agent, Daniel “Boobie” Gibson turned himself into New Orleans police on Monday where he was charged with assault and battery from an incident that allegedly took place in early July during the city’s Essence festival weekend. Details are still being released but in a call to TMZ, Gibson revealed that there was an incident where he had to defend his wife, r&b singer Keyshia Cole who was one of the event’s performers:

a man approached Keyshia at the Essence Music Fest and yelled some inappropriate comments towards her, so he took matters into his own hands. He also released the statement:

“Earlier this month during the Essence Music Festival, I was involved in an incident with other individuals while I was out with my wife.[…]It’s unfortunate that some see opportunity in taking advantage of people who work hard for what they have achieved.

We’ll just have to sit tight and wait for more details to emerge. No word on where Gibson might sign for the ’13-’14 season.
