Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware underwent successful surgery Sunday night to repair a right broken leg. The injury, which some are dubbing the worst sports injury they’ve ever witnessed, took place on Sunday night as the Cardinals faced off against the Duke Blue Devils in the NCAA “Elite 8.” The open fracture of his right tibia was repaired by resetting the bone and inserting a rod into his leg. His recovery timetable is approximately a year. Teammates and coaches went to the hospital to visit the freshman. And Ware even posed with the trophy in his hospital bed. Ware is already up on crutches following the two-hour surgery.
The injury isn’t expected to be a career ending one.
