Jay Z release new music, “Open Letter” addresses Nets ownership, Cuba and more [audio]

The infusion of hip-hop in sports was ramped up when Jay Z took an active role in the branding of the Brooklyn Nets. Jay Z’s influence is felt all throughout Barclays Center. From the look, to the music played in the arena. Even the in-arena club is a Jay branded product, “The 40-40 Club.” So what happens when the minority owner goes back to his rap roots to address him selling his shares of the Nets to break into the sports agency business, his recent trip to Cuba and other things on the entertainment mogul’s mind? “Open Letter,” class is in session.

Check the song produced by Swizz Beatz & Timbaland. Here’s the line he had about his moves with the Nets:

“Would’ve bought the Nets to Brooklyn for free, except I made millions off it, you fuc*in dweeb, I still own the building, I’m still keepin my seats”

Welcome to Hip-hop ownership in sports. If only all beefs and rumors could be addressed with a bar in a rap song. “You gone learn today”
