James played as a guard/forward for the Miami Hurricanes from 2002 to 2006. She is the school’s all-time leading scorer across both men’s and women’s basketball with 2,406 career points after averaging 21 points per game.

She also gave a statement the SunSentinel, thanking supporters for furthering her dreams of enacting change in her community. “I plan on being a voice for our residents, promoting smart economic growth and unifying us as a city… I’m looking forward to winning championships for the oldest city in Broward County.”
