Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips is the suspect in the murder of his cellmate at Kern Valley State Prison in California.
Phillips is currently serving a 31 year prison sentence for a few different charges including; choking his girlfriend and driving his car into three teens after a pickup football game in Los Angeles.
Phillips was a star college running back, he was arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, by dragging her down the stairs. He was selected in the first round of the 1996 NFL draft. The 39-year-old played for the St. Louis Rams until being released in 1997 for insubordination. He also played spent time with the Dolphins and 49ers.
He’s suspected of killing Damion Soward, a 37-year-old inmate from San Bernardino County serving 82 years to life for a first-degree murder conviction.
