A Miami couple felt their lives were in danger last month newly signed Cleveland Brown Desmond Bryant ripped the doorknob off their front door and tried to break the door down.
Police say Bryant, 27, was “extremely intoxicated” when he asked a cab driver to let him out at a house a few doors down from his home on Feb. 24.
Isaac Baker told the Miami Herald he awoke at 5:30 a.m. one Sunday last month to the sound of someone pounding on the front door of his home in North Miami Beach.
He said Bryant was pulling the doorknob, and finally ripped it off. Baker said he held the door shut by putting his weight on it, while his wife dialed 911.
They were scared,” the family’s attorney, Robert Fiore, told The Plain Dealer of Cleveland, according to the Miami Herald. Fiore filed the lawsuit Monday in Miami-Dade circuit court. “My client was holding on for dear life,” he said.
The couple have filed a lawsuit against the NFL star. The 6-foot-6, 311-pound defensive end just signed a $34 million contract with the Browns last week.
Bryant, a Harvard graduate, apologized profusely for his actions.
“I obviously made a mistake,” Bryant said, according to The Plain Dealer of Cleveland. “I apologize for everything that happened. I feel like I have learned from it and I have moved on from that.”
