Former Michigan State basketball star Mateen Cleaves is being investigated for his role in an alleged sexual assault in Genesee County, according to prosecutors.
While no further details have been released, JocksandStilettoJill.com has exclusively learned a few details about the investigation.
Two women in separate incidents reported possibly being drugged and then sexually assaulted by the 38-year-old Cleaves, while spending time with him in a local motel. In at least one of the incidents, there is alleged video of a woman running from a hotel room without clothes, and Cleaves being the alleged man who retrieved her and pulled her back into the room, while also missing clothing.
Cleaves was a star at Michigan State University, where he became a member of the vaunted “Flintstones” basketball. In 2000, that team won the NCAA men’s basketball championship, with Cleaves named Most Outstanding Player.
He was twice named Big Ten Player of The Year.
He was selected 14th overall in the 2000 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons. He eventually was traded to the Sacramento Kings and had stints with the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Seattle Supersonics.
He joined the Fox Sports Detroit team in 2010 to cover the Pistons and joined the CBS Sports Network in 2012 as a studio analyst.
Cleaves married Chanda Lane in 2008.
