Deon Cole & Cast Talk BET+ Series ‘Average Joe’ Talk Dark Comedy & Zombie Apocalypse Skills

The new BET+ series, “Average Joe” is a dark comedy inspired by the life of creator Robb Cullen. The series stars Deon Cole as a blue-collar plumber named Joe Washington who “discovers his recently deceased father lived a secret second life and stole millions of dollars from a Russian crime boss just before he died.

The cast also features Joe’s wife, Angela (Tammy Townsend), and daughter (Ashley Olivia Fisher.) But they aren’t the only ones affected when Joe decides to look for the money his dad stole and keep it for himself after being attacked by members of the mob. His best friends, Leon Montgomery (Malcolm Barrett,) Leon’s wife (Cynthia Kaye McWilliams), and Benjamin “Touch” Tuchowuski (Michael Trucco) agree to help him out in exchange for 20 percent of the cash.

Jill Munroe talked with the cast (before the SAG-AFTRA strike) about the series and discovered what special skill set the cast believes they have to defend themselves if the zombie apocalypse ever went down.
