In 2013, blasting one’s private interactions with athletes via social media has become practically the norm. But there were some athletes who already had a glimpse of what the future would hold and had chicks signing confidentiality agreements with abortion clauses way back in 2007.
JJ Redick was a young second-year player for the Orlando Magic in 2007, dating a woman named Vanessa Lopez. Redick—or someone savvy in his life that he trusted—was smart enough to put together a contract that stipulated that Vanessa Lopez, the woman he was dating at the time, would be paid $25K to abort her pregnancy and go away quietly. The contract also called for her not to stalk or expose him as the potential father should he decide the relationship was over.
There are a bunch of other clauses and stipulations. Given the current state of athlete relations, I can see more considering keeping these documents on standby.
As a side note, Vanessa Lopez is definitely part of the athlete referral program. She attempted to sue Shaq following their “relationship”—the suit was eventually dismissed, and Lopez was cut up by the judge, who said she was a liar. She also had an alleged “situation” with Kenyon Martin.
JJ was just traded to the Clippers. I know we don’t have to worry about the Hollywood lights getting him caught up!
