Basketball Wives the movie headed to a screen near you

Are you ready for Basketball Wives the movie? Shaunie O’Neal and Tracey Edmonds have made a deal with Fox Searchlight for an untitled film based loosely on the “Basketball Wives” concept.

Centered around a young woman who follows her boyfriend to Miami after he gets drafted into the NBA. Thrust into the world of professional sports, she meets and learns from the sisterhood of players’ wives and learns from their trials and tribulations.

“The beauty of a feature film is that we’ll have the ability to dig much deeper into the stories and characters that come from this very colorful world and create a very juicy action packed narrative,” Tracey Edmonds told Variety.

Can’t say I’m surprised about this but one has to wonder how Evelyn feels with her books on a similar topic, “Wives Association” will be released next month via Cash Money publishing and there was also a film component to the deal as well.

The project will be produced by Edmonds and O’Neal will co-produce under Edmonds’ Our Stories Films Inc production company, with Glendon Palmer and Phil Robinson as exec producers. The film will be written by Jumping The Broom co-writer Elizabeth Hunter. No treatment put together at the moment. I’m sure Shaunie can give them tons of material to develop.
