Are you ready for “Basketball Moms”? Karen Frye, mother of Phoenix Suns forward Channing Frye thinks you are. This show will follow the lives of 6 NBA mothers who live together and bond over stories about their sons. The cast will also confront their own issues, including trying to lose weight and get in better shape.
One of Frye’s goals with developing this show is to show a flip side of the narrative on the typical “NBA mother.” The one that paints them as single mothers from the hood who retire as soon as their son’s gift them with the introductory baller’s mom kit. A new house, a car, etc. etc.
Funny enough, these are the same goals that were outlined when Basketball Wives was developed. Not that I’m comparing the two. Just pointing out the irony.
I think NBA Entertainment should consider picking this up. Could be very enlightening.
