Okay boys and girls, what did we learn from week 1 of the 2011 NFL season? Let’s see, according to my secret lover, Herman Edwards, “Tom Brady stole the show.” Cam Newton did a great job and even tied the rookie record for most passing yards in a rookie debut; however, people seemed to forget his team still took the L. Tim Tebow fans are calling for his team to start him and Chris Johnson showed why he was worth all that money with his dismal (side eye) performance. Note to Titans fans, the holdout curse never fails and I am predicting Chris will get hurt before the 5th game. Speaking of hurt running backs, Steven Jackson if you are reading this, do yourself a favor and hire your own personal trainer, a personal strength & conditioning coach, and a good physical therapist. You are always hurt which is a sign of poor conditioning.
The Raiders once again showed why we (Los Angelians) don’t want them back. Los Angeles is a city for Winners (minus Charlie Sheen) and clearly the Raiders will always be losers. The on field scuffles and all around foolishness on the field between the Raiders and Broncos resulted in 50+ penalties and of course they lost the game. Charles Woodson who was destined to be a winner (Heisman trophy, National Championship at Michigan) had to leave the Raiders in order to become great and win a Super Bowl. Just saying… and I am not sure what happened with the Steelers.
Lastly, there was the Ryan vs. Ryan bowl and in my eyes the only game that mattered. This game embodied the spirit of “America’s Game.” There was healthy competition between brothers and some good old fashion hard-hitting defense. Although the game came down to the wire, I never doubted for one second that Rex Ryan (my boyfriend in my head) wouldn’t show his bother Rob why he was “Big Sexy.” Sorry Dallas fans, but your team… should sit down and “eat a god damn snack!”
