Seahawks trade Percy Harvin; Marshawn Lynch is mad and Golden Tate is sipping tea

A head-scratching trade went down on Friday in the NFL. Percy Harvin was traded to the New York Jets for a conditional 2015 draft pick. The move is curious because Harvin has performed well in his almost two years with the Seahawks – we aren’t talking about the flags on those three different touchdowns, stuff happens – and won the ultimate NFL prize, the Vince Lombardi trophy.

When the news of Harvin’s trade spread, one of the first reactions on Twitter was from Harvin’s teammate, Marshawn Lynch

Lynch was reportedly so heated when he heard the news, he almost didn’t on the bus to the airport – the team is playing the Rams on Sunday.

Reportedly Harvin wanted to be traded and the Seahawks were happy to oblige him because his attitude was a problem. Lynch allegedly gave former teammate Golden Tate, a black eye before the Super Bowl.

I’d assume that part is true because Tate, who has moved on to the Detroit Lions, RT a Kermit meme and posted his own “sipping tea” photo to Instagram

Here are a few other incidents involving Harvin and teammates per the Seattle Times:

A source also said Harvin had an altercation with Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin in the week leading up to the final preseason game this August at Oakland that resulted in Baldwin getting a cut on his chin and each player being excused from practices that week. Harvin, who did not practice for two days prior to that game, did not make the trip to Oakland for what the team said at the time was “a personal matter.”

One final straw, a league source said, came in Sunday’s 30-23 loss to Dallas when Harvin apparently balked at going back into the game in the fourth quarter. Harvin played 26 of 48 official snaps but did not play 11 of the final 17.

“He’s just a time bomb,” one NFL source said, describing him as “too moody” and noting that Minnesota had also grown tired of dealing with Harvin, which precipitated his trade to Seattle in March 2013.

Seahawks just freed up a bunch of cap space too. Percy was originally signed to a $67 million contract with $25.5 million guaranteed. So far he’s collected around $18 million.
