Ravens Ray Rice Apologizes; Wife Janay Has Words For Instagram “Stalkers”

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice publicly apologized to his wife Janay on Thursday for the February incident that took place in Atlantic City. In a press conference to discuss his two-game suspension, Rice also addressed several

Some of the key points covered by Rice.

He acknowledged how hard it will be to explain this situation to his young daughter once she becomes old enough to use Google.

“I know that’s not who I am as a man. That’s not who my mom raised me to be. I was raised by a single parent, and that was my mother. I let her down, I let my wife down, I let my daughter down. I let her parents down. I let so many people down because of 30 seconds of my life that I know I can’t take back,”

He acknowledged that he didn’t apologize to his wife Janay publicly. The two got married a few months after the altercation.

“I didn’t publicly apologize to my wife. I know that hit home for a lot of people,” Rice said. “I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life. Me. She can do no wrong. She’s an angel.”

“I own my actions,” he said. “I just don’t want to keep reliving the incident. It doesn’t bring any good to me. I’m just trying to move forward from it. I don’t condone it. I take full responsibility for my actions. What happened that night is something that I’m going to pay for the rest of my life.”

“My actions that night were totally inexcusable,” he began. “That’s not me. That’s something I have to live with the rest of my life.”

He also said he and his wife wanted to talk about domestic violence “when the time is right.”

But, not until he continues his counseling, as he said he’s still in that process.

Rice said he’s never been involved in any kind of domestic abuse situation, though he repeatedly declined to offer specifics on the night of “the incident.” but said he “owned it,” and it was the “biggest mistake of my life.”

“I own my actions,” he said. “I just don’t want to keep reliving the incident. It doesn’t bring any good to me. I’m just trying to move forward from it. I don’t condone it. I take full responsibility for my actions. What happened that night is something that I’m going to pay for the rest of my life.”

He also thanked the Baltimore Raven fans that have shown him support.

“I appreciate the fans of Baltimore who gave me that ovation,” Rice said. “When the time is right, when I get myself completely right to go back out there and do the things I been doing in the community, I will go out there and help as many people as I can.”

Rice says this situation was the first instance of domestic violence he’s been involved in. He also apologized to all victims of domestic violence.
