First Down

Odell Beckham Jr. On Josh Norman and Khloé Kardashian

Odell Beckham Jr. had a lot to get off his chest during a recent interview with GQ. Odell broke down why former Carolina Panther Josh Norman made his free agency moves based off their budding rivalry and how Khloé Kardashian almost messed up his relationship.

Odell believes Josh Norman liked the attention their face off last December. So much so that he signed with the Giants rival Washington Redskins. Beckham says its a good business move for the CB.

“Yeah. For sure. I mean, it’s a smart business move for him.”

“It goes back to what I was saying. If I wasn’t playing him twice a year, maybe people wouldn’t bring it up as much,” Beckham says. “But now it’ll be a lot more media attention for him, attention that I don’t really look for, attention that I don’t need. The reason that he’s become so relevant is because of me.”

What he learned about life while living with Drake:

“I’ve made mistakes,” he says. “Like bringing people to your level who don’t deserve to be there. They’re trying to bite off your so-called fame, make a name off of you. I think I did a lot of that—allowed people to be relevant in my life who really aren’t relevant to me at all.” That sort of thing won’t fly if you’re trying to make the leap to Drake’s level. So Beckham has been thinking a lot about shrinking his circle, and what that requires. Who he would need to become.

“It’s about being rougher than you ever really thought you had to be,” he says. “Losing people you were close to for reasons that are nothing more than they’re not doing anything to better you. It’s to say, ‘Yeah, it’s great to have friends, it’s great to be cool with people. But that’s not going to get me exactly where I want to go.’ ”

Earlier this summer there were rumors that Odell was hooking up with athlete favorite Khloé Kardashian. Odell said it was just a moment but it messed up his real relationships.

“Whoever was there taking the pictures inside of a private party, inside of a private-er, private-er area of the house—we were in the kitchen of the house, where there was only like 15 people. It’s just kind of like…‘dating’? I just met this person. This is maybe the second conversation we’ve had.”

So: Beckham was not, is not, dating Khloé Kardashian—but the rumors did fuck him up with a girl he wasseeing. “Things go like that,” he says ruefully, “and then some other girl that I may have been talking to hears about it, and now it’s more drama, more commotion in my life. And I’m sitting here trying to explain my situation to somebody, and it’s really not even a situation.”
