NFL Upholds Browns’ Josh Gordon’s Year Suspension

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has officially been suspended for one year by the NFL. Gordon attempted to appeal the suspension but the league handed down their final verdict on Wednesday.

“I’d like to apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Cleveland Browns organization and our fans,” Gordon said in a statement through the NFLPA. “I am very disappointed that the NFL and its hearing office didn’t exercise better discretion and judgment in my case. I would like to sincerely thank the people who have been incredibly supportive of me during this challenging time, including my family, my agent, my union, my legal team, and the Cleveland Browns staff.”

In his appeal, Gordon claimed that his positive weed test came as a result of second-hand smoke. In two testing samples, his failed “A” sample was one nanogram per milliliter above the league’s threshold of 15 nanograms per milliliter, while the “B” sample measured below the threshold at 13.63.

Gordon’s first suspension came either from lean, or he just happened to use a cough syrup that contained codeine. In addition to the two failed tests, Gordon was charged with a DUI this off season. Gordon won’t be eligible to participate in NFL related activities until August 27th, 2015.
