NFL Players Association release statement regarding Miami Dolphins responsibility in Martin-Incognito incident

The NFL Players Association has released a statement regarding the Miami Dolphins locker room climate stemming from the accusations that o-lineman,  Richie Incognito was harassing teammate, Jonathan Martin.

“We expect that the NFL and its clubs create a safe and professional workplace for all players and that owners, executives, coaches and players should set the best standards and examples. It is the duty of this union to hold the clubs and teams accountable for safety and professionalism in the workplace,” the statement read. “As the representative organization of all players, the NFLPA will insist on a fair investigation for all involved. We will continue to remain in contact with the impacted players, their representatives and player leadership.”

The NFL Players Association has a unique scenario on its hands. The NFLPA’s job is to look after the players best interests. The situation that allegedly took place in the Dolphins locker room was between two players. The union could wind up having to defend Incognito should the Dolphins follow through and cut ties with the offensive lineman and try to void his salary. In the case where they’ll also be representing the victim, Martin, as well, who I’m sure has no desire to return to a team that he feels allowed this issue to linger.
