NFL Hall of Famer Deacon Jones passes away at 74

Sending love and light to the family of Deacon Jones … one of the greatest football players in history. Jones was one fourth of the L.A. Rams Fearsome Foursome from 1961 to 1971. He passed away on June 3rd died of natural causes at his home in So. Cal. at the age of 74.

Deacon revolutionized the way defensive ends played the game — not only creating his famous “head slap” technique, but he’s also responsible for the term “sack” because of the way he destroyed quarterbacks. Jones was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980.

I have no personal recollection of Deacon on the gridiron but, I absolutely caught the Hollywood version on TV and movies. Jones was also one of the early innovators of Jocks ending up in Hollywood. Of course playing for the Rams made that an easy extension. Jones had guest-starring roles on “The Brady Bunch,” “The Odd Couple” and “Bewitched.”  and was in the film “Heaven Can Wait.”
