Veteran safety Kerry Rhodes was not in the NFL last season. The seven-year pro last played for the Arizona Cardinals in the 2012 season. During that season, Rhodes picked off four passes and was part of the fifth-best pass defense in the NFL. With several teams needing help with their defense.
There were of course the rumors and photos leaked by an ex-employee with an ax to grind and an agenda, that attempted to cast doubts on his personal life. Some feel the negative attention caused Rhodes to be blackballed in the NFL or at the very least be labeled a distraction. I decided to reach out to Rhodes PR to see if he had an explanation as to why he was out of the NFL during the 2013 season. Here’s his response.
“I took time to pursue other career opportunities that presented
themselves. I’ve always wanted to pursue acting and learn more about film
production. I was given the chance and I took it. My production company,
It’s the Comeback Kids, co-owned with my business partner Anthony Holt,
was very busy this past year. We have a lot of projects in post production
and are shopping a series and produced a documentary on NBA great Antoine
Walker– One of the projects, a comedy, Good Cop, Bike Cop–I play the
lead. If this year leads me back on the field and it’s the best situation
for everyone involved, of course I’m ready. But right now I’m enjoying
what Los Angeles has to offer.”
Per his publicist, Rhodes is still being pursued by several NFL teams and is staying in NFL shape. I’m interested in seeing his documentary on Antoine Walker.
