NFL Free Agency & Trades Update: Revis Back To NY, Rams & Eagles Switch QB’s & More

Free agency officially began in the NFL on Tuesday. There was a lot of movement, a few surprises and an end of a career.

Darrell Revis has returned to the team that gave him his start in the NFL. Revis has returned to the New York Jets as a champion – he won a ring with the Pats in this year’s Super Bowl – and now he’s the highest paid corner in the L. The NY Daily News reports that the All-Pro signed a five-year, $70 million contract that includes $39 million guaranteed.

The first two years of the deal are fully guaranteed. Revis will get $16 million guaranteed in 2015 and $17 million in 2016.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has continues with his makeover of the team. Kelly got rid of DeSean Jackson last season. This off season he shipped LeSean McCoy to the Bills, and now he’s traded QB Nick Foles to the Rams for their QB Sam Braford.

49’ers sign former Cardinals DT Darnell Dockett and former Raven Torrey Smith. Smith signed for 5 years-$40 million.

Former 49’ers running back Frank Gore reportedly juked the Eagles and is headed to the Indianapolis Colts. He’s also said to be trying to convince Andre Johnson, who was released from the Texans, to join him there too.

Bye bye Detroit. DT Ndamukong Suh is signing with the Miami Dolphins for a contract that will make him the highest-paid defensive player at $110 million with $60 million guaranteed.

Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin is moving on from the Eagles to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jacoby Jones was released by the Ravens and has signed with the San Diego Chargers
TE Jimmy Graham was traded from the New Orleans Saints to the Seattle Seahawks for basically nothing. The Saints were cap heavy so it makes sense they are attempting to shed $$.

Brandon Marshall says goodbye to the Chicago Bears and hello to the New York Jets.

San Francisco 49ers’ All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis has called it a career. Willis made the announcement on Monday night that he’s retiring after eight years in the L.

“Today is my Future, Past, and Present all in one,” he posted through WhoSay. “It’s bigger than me, it always has been and it always will be…I thank you guys for everything, it has been an absolute pleasure….I look forward to the continuation of my journey… I feel full with something that needs to be out, and i just want to share it! Success is only as beautiful as our Consistency!”

Willis is just 30 years old but a chronic toe injury has a lot to do with his decision. In 2014, he had surgery on the toe after six games, ending his season early.

Willis was drafted by the 49ers in the 2007 NFL draft. His rookie year, he lead the NFL in tackles, was named the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, earning All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors, plus winning the 49ers’ MVP award.  He went on to be named All-Pro five more times and was voted to the Pro Bowl every season of his career -with the exception of 2014.
