The 49ers and Chiefs have completed a trade for Alex Smith. The deal won’t be “official” until March 12th when the league opens up for the new year but the Alex Smith era in San Francisco is done. So, what did the Chiefs give up for Smith? A second-round pick this year (33rd overall), as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014. Smith’s base salary is guarnteed for $8.5 million next season.
The Chiefs have a new head coach in Andy Reid. Smith is replacing Matt Cassel, who’s expected to be released.
Smith suffered a concussion this season and was replaced by back up QB Colin Kaepernick who led the Niners to the Super Bowl and had a record setting playoff performance.
