Jonathan Martin sought treatment for emotional distress after leaving the Dolphins

The man at the center of the storm of the Miami Dolphins locker room, offensive tackle Jonathan Martin, recently checked into a South Florida hospital to be treated for emotional distress.

Martin was visited at the hospital by Dolphins coach Joe Philbin, and the organization arranged for his parents to travel to South Florida, the sources said.

Martin then left with his parents to return to California where they’re from.

The specific treatment of Martin’s emotional condition was not disclosed, but sources say it was related to his belief that he had been targeted during a sustained level of harassment from teammates, including suspended guard Richie Incognito.

Coach Philbin was never informed by Martin that he felt harassed by Incognito. Martin’s lawyers are preparing to release a statement.

Martin’s teammates have come out in overwhelming support of Richie Incognito. Even stating that Incognito was Martin’s “best friend” on the team and expressing confusion of the events that are unfolding.
