Jets QB Geno Smith’s Jaw Broken By Teammate IK Enemkpali

NFL training camp is in full swing. Every summer we see or hear about scuffles and altercations that take place on the field, as testosterone levels surge high. Usually it’s just competitive fire, but there are times when it takes a wild turn.

New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith will miss 6 to 10 weeks after suffering a broken jaw from a locker room fight today with reserve linebacker IK Enemkpali.

The fight reportedly stemmed from a $600 plane ticket purchase. Enemkpali purchased a flight for Geno to attend his camp. Geno was a no-show and Ik wanted a reimbursement.

Via Adam Schefter:

At the heart of the dispute between former Jets LB IK Enemkpali and quarterback Geno Smith is $600 that Enemkpali believed Smith owed him, per league sources. Enemkpali purchased a plane ticket for Smith to attend his July 11 football camp at Pfugerville High School in Pfugerville, Texas. However, days before the camp, a person close to Smith was killed in a motorcycle accident in Miami and Smith did not attend Enemkpali’s camp, per sources. After Smith did not attend, Enemkpali demanded that the Jets’ quarterback refund him the $600 he allegedly used to purchase a plane ticket. Smith told Enemkpali he would reimburse him the money, but he did not. Enkempali confronted Smith today about the money and the confrontation ended in a punch and broken jaw.

Geno posted a photo to Instagram with your favorite “Terminator” quote, “I’ll be back”

As for IK Enemkpali, his career with the Jets is over. He was cut immediately. Probably isn’t smart for a third string lineman to take out the starting QB.

Sounds like an episode of HBO’s “Ballers.”

This wasn’t the only camp fight this week that involved a starting QB. Carolina Panthers’ Cam Newton had a tussle, but he smiled throughout his altercation, and came out unscathed.
