What’s the usual plan of action when after a public scandal? Rehab. And that’s where Eagles receiver Riley Cooper is headed.
Yesterday it was announced that Cooper will head to counseling following an incident at a Kenny Chesney concert where he was recorded yelling, “I’ll fight every ni**er in here.”
“Riley Cooper will be seeking counseling and we have excused him from all team activities.” The rep says Riley needs to understand how his racist threats are hurtful. The team is hedging over whether Cooper will be welcome back.
For his part, Riley says, “The organization and my teammates have been extremely supportive, but I also realize that there are people who will have a tough time forgiving me for what I’ve done. The best thing for me, and for the team, is to step away for a period of time.”
I hope that Riley had to address his teammates in the locker room before his “time away” kicked in. Whatever his counselor has to say to him probably will have a bit more bite if he understands how the guys he went to war with every Sunday think and feel on the topic.
Even RIley’s grandmother got in on the topic. TMZ reached out to her and she said that he wasn’t raised in a racist household but now he’ll have to deal with the consequences of his actions.
