Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall Wants To Get Thrown Out Of Monday’s Game

The Miami Dolphins are 0-4. Clearly some sense of urgency needs to come from inside the team. That’s one way of looking at WR Brandon Marshall’s recent statements about Monday night’s game against the New York Jets.

“my goal is to get thrown out midway through the second quarter,” and “I don’t know if it’s throwing a football 15 yards in the bleachers and getting a 15-yarder or punting the ball and getting thrown out of the game. But something’s going to happen,”

But, because of his recent announcement that he suffers from borderline personality disorder, statements like this become an “elephant in the room” type situation. The fair thing to do is ignore that piece of information and take Marshall’s statement at face value. More comments from Thursday

“I’m serious. They want to fine me, it’ll probably be like a $50,000 fine. But I’m going to play. That quarter and half I’m out there, I’m going to play like a monster. I might get in a fight with Bart Scott. Cromartie, we pretty much matured our relationship and grew a little bit. We used to fight … If that happens, it happens. We’ll see.”

But is it responsible to ignore it? Isn’t football about unleashing “the beast” on the gridiron? I’m all about removing the stigma of mental illness so that people aren’t afraid to get the help they need. If you’re stronger enough to cop to it, you can certainly handle some sideways glances when you say you want to get thrown out of a game.
