Did Jay Z Turn Down An Offer To Perform At Halftime For The 2018 SuperBowl?

Rumors began to surface a few weeks back that the NFL was targeting Jay Z and Justin Timberlake for the 2018 Super Bowl LII halftime show. Earlier this year, 117 million people watched Lady Gaga perform during Patriots vs. Falcons.

But Jay has allegedlly turned down the opportunity according to The Maven. The reasons why are unclear, but some speculate that perhaps Jay’s support of Colin Kaepernick is why he said no.

Earlier this month, during a performance at the Meadows Music and Arts Festival, Jay dedicated his “The Story of OJ” off his 4:44 album to Kap.

“I want to dedicate this song to Colin Kaepernick tonight, I want to dedicate this to Dick Gregory. I want to dedicate this song to anyone that was held back and you overcame,” he added about the song from his personal and revealing album, “4:44.”

Kaepernick still isn’t on an NFL roster this season following his decision to kneel during the national anthem last year as a protest to the increasing numbers of police brutality against blacks.

Or maybe he remembers how upset some were during the 2016 Super Bowl when Beyonce broke out “Formation” which included a nod to the Black Panthers.

Or maybe he just didn’t want to go to Minnesota…

The NFL responded with a carefully measured statement that isn’t exactly a denial.

“No decisions have been made on the performer(s) and we are not going to speculate on particular artists,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy told Pro Football Talk. “Along with Pepsi, we know that we will put on a spectacular show. When it is time to announce her name we will do it. Or his name. Or their names.”

Whatever the case, Jay is rich and isn’t lacking from exposure. He’ll be ok, but will the halftime show?
